As I came home from school one rainy Thursday, I received a text from my mother to pick up food from The White Star Cafe that she had called in. I walked in to the quaint, bustling cafe, and proceeded to pick up our food. Once home, I dived into the daily special, which consisted of country fried steak and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a roll. The country fried steak and gravy was fried to perfection with a heavy helping of scrumptious gravy, the mashed potatoes were smooth, buttery, and most definitely homemade, the green beans were fresh and delicious, and the buttered roll was just right- firm on the outside, but fluffy on the inside. If you are ever in Clintwood and in need of good home cooking, check out the White Star Cafe.
Today, I visited The White Star Cafe with my mother, and cousins, to help decorate the restaurant. It was a great experience. I also received a tour of the Cafe from my cousin and new owner, Sammy Stone. I was amazed at all of the work that had taken place. This icon, while thoroughly renovated and modernized, still maintains the look and feel of days gone by. The juke box is still operating and playing tunes from 1936 and later. The White Star Cafe is definitely something special. Pictured below in the Main Dining Area of the Star are my Mother Amanda Reedy Baker (Left), Cousin Retha Stone (Middle), and Cousin Melonie Stone Baker (Right).
